The art of social media
1) What was the general theme or plot of the book?
The main objective of the book was to fully understand the main reasons for social networks and their impact to be successful. Optimization of profiles, entrepreneurship and use of different platforms are essential when having a social network. Something very important was the response and the handling of comments.
2) How, in your opinion, did the book connect and improve with what you are learning in ENT 3003?
The book improved me in many facets of my virtual social life. First of all I learned a lot who to follow, who adds me and who suits me. On the other hand, I also developed social skills since many women became very close friends. Similarly, social networks became a tool which empowered my entrepreneurship at the national level.
3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise entail?
The exercise that I would design would be very fun and demanding. First of all, I would make groups of students who have to create 3 different social media accounts to start. They are free to choose any type of style on the market but it cannot be repeated. The most successful group will be exempt from exams.
4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed the most from your expectations?
What surprised me most was the speed at which ideas become useless. Life takes many turns. For example, the author seems in love with google + but this tool would have a failed closure at the end of 2019. However, in 2014 the author gave advice on innovation in social networks and a lot of advice to promote this page, which was a disaster.
Hey Javier, good post. I really liked the idea of using an exam exemption to motivate students into taking social media seriously. I feel like there’s a lot of classes that don’t feel like the information will apply to real life because they fit the structure of a class too tightly. Like how in a job you perform well to keep it, not make trouble for coworkers, etc., but in a lot of classes it’s all numerical with grades.
ReplyDeleteHi Javier,
ReplyDeleteI am glad that the book was able to give you some insight into your own life. Your idea for the class exercise is very cool, and could really help them understand the importance of social media in today's world. I agree that life is constantly changing and it is important to stay ahead of these changes so you stay relevant.
